Video Gaming Days

I've been playing World of Warcraft in my spare time (and some of my other time) for months now. With good reason, too; the game is absolutely outstanding. There's no doubt that it will be the bar against which future MMORPG games are measured for years to come. It's great on so many levels: the totally immersive gameworld, the careful level design and beautiful environment art, and most of all, the actual gameplay, which feels to me like the work of some kind of game-building genius.

That's right. I give it a 10 out of 10.

I can only imagine the design team at Blizzard, spending countless hours arguing about every little detail while they try to put this game together. And they're gettting paid to do it, too! What a great job...

On a related note, there's an upcoming MMORPG that I'm interested in called Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures. I'm pretty sure it won't live up to the high standard set by Warcraft, but when I look at some of the early screenshots I can see hints of that same gritty, dark feel that I find so appealing in the Conan comic books.

Also in the works, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Bethesda software has been touting this new game as "the quintessential RPG of the next generation." I'm willing to give some credence to that lofty claim, having played the previous Elder Scrolls games, and having seen the jaw-dropping screenshots for the latest installment in the series.
