Beauty Again

I while ago I blogged about the amount of photo editing that actually goes into the images that you see in the media every day. Unfortunately, the link I included went offline almost immediately, so nobody got a chance to see the pictures I was talking about.

It looks like someone went to the trouble of capturing all those images and putting them onto a different page--one that I'm pretty sure will still be available by the time you read this. Take a look at the photos here...they're quite interesting, and also sort of comforting if you're having an "ugly" day. Just hover your mouse cursor over the images to see the unedited versions.

And while you're over at that guy's website, be sure to check out his other really interesting posting.

  1. It was neat to see the comparison photos again. It really makes me wonder how much longer they will bother using a real person rather than just generating an image from scratch.

It is nice to see that bicycling is only surpassed in safety by air/space travel. It must have something to do with the aircraft grade aluminum, titanium and carbon fiber used in both bikes and planes ;)

  2. It makes me realize how silly it is to try and compare how I look against the super skinny, super hot magazine cover girls. I would have to somehow project my photoshopped image over my real image…

  3. wow….just wow. They should show those photos and the Dove commerical (even if it is advertising) to every 12 year old girl. Maybe even younger…before we starting thinking “I’m ugly because I don’t look like that…”. Thanks Cory. Like every other intelligent woman out there, I have my moments and that is a powerful tool to combat those moments.

  4. Thanks to Colin, I now have the url to your blog!

And thanks very muchly for this link. I think I know quite a few people that would appreciate such a reality check as these photos provide. Provides a lot to think about.

And so does the mortality chart! That one I found mostly entertaining!

  5. Glad you guys liked that link. I was kind of upset when it disappeared the first time that I posted it…now I’m glad I reposted.

Hi Ali! Nice to see you. Now I have a link to your blog, too.

I agree with Chris–it is only a matter of (not much) time before the models in magazines and ads are entirely computer generated.

Digital people can be even more beautiful and perfect than photoshopped models, and they don’t demand money for the use of their image. They also get better looking over time.
